Munich

Our second stop in Eurotrip extraordinaire was Munich.
YEAH, IN GERMANY.
THE ONE COUNTRY ON MY BUCKET LIST.

Munich was a complete contrast to London, with bright, clean air, glittering green trees, and a breezy, open subway. Our lodgings were prettier (yay HOTELS), the people were nicer, and it was much less stressful all around.

Our first full day of sightseeing included a visit to Dachau concentration camp, which was both sobering and redemptive.

This sink was located behind the ovens of the crematorium. It seemed so...out of place.

The afternoon was spent wondering downtown Munich around the Marienplatz.

After some lunch, of course.

We took a peek into Frauenkirche.

We had to stop in H&M because it was H&M.
And then we had to sit on the grass because it was grass.

The Neue Rathaus (New City Hall) was EXTREMELY impressive.

It even had a glockenspiel, because that's the next best thing to having a giant cuckoo clock in the middle of town.

For dinner, we went to the HofbrÀuhaus and, you know, had some German brew.

Then Amy and I made a new friend.

Our second day of sightseeing was a day trip to NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE, which was positively magical regardless of the hordes of people there.

This other castle is Hohenschwangau. We didn't go in there. It was entirely too yellow and difficult to pronounce.

There were at least two hundred people on that bridge.

The two-hour train ride took us through the Bavarian countryside.
Pretty sure Hansel and Gretel are somewhere in the background of this picture.

Our last day in Munich began with a picnic lunch at the Englischgarten.

And ended with more exploring of the Marienplatz.

Including a look around the church of St. Peter.

Munich was by far my favorite stop.
