Once Upon a Spain: Two Days in a Chick Flick

The third and last installment in our "Once Upon a Spain" series:
Two Days in a Chick Flick.

No, I didn't fall in love in Spain, but I did expect to see movie cameras just around the corner.
Why?
Because everything was GORGEOUS.

Our first day of sightseeing was the day after our planes touched down.
And after getting four hours of sleep over the past two nights.
My insides were at war between elated inner child and yawning inner grandma.

It was a Sunday morning, and all 70-something of us volunteers piled onto a bus to go to Girona, a city not too far from camp. For this, the first outing, we were clustered together like a flock of jetlagged ducklings, each of us paired up with a partner to make sure that nobody keeled over on a stone bench and got left behind.

We saw a lot of things, none of which I can name for you. Sorry.
Eventually we had to stop for lunch, which included this dish of deliciousness:

I don't like flan, but that plate of wonder was gone much more quickly than I'd hoped.
Also--that glass of wine was the first I've ever been allowed to have on a mission trip
Shhh.

During the afternoon we went to the city of Besalu, and were thankfully allowed to split into small groups. I paired off with Alicia, who had also come without a team, and we had a lovely time walking around at our own pace.

Dianely and Jenna joined in for this picture, which was taken by random American dudes.

Our second day of sightseeing was three days later, when I was slightly less jetlagged but equally exhausted, and we were taken to--you guessed it--BARCELONA.

For the morning we were once again sent off in small groups, and while Alicia and I didn't hunt down some of the main sights of Barcelona, we enjoyed just walking down the streets.

After a stop for tapas, we rejoined the team to go to the Castell de Monjuic, an old fort with cannons and manly things around it.

Then we stopped by the Barcelona Futbol Club to look at some muscular mannequins.

With a final stop at La Sagrada Familia, a crazy-looking cathedral that's been in construction since 1882.

Two lovely days--and while there weren't any cameras around the corner, there should've been.
All I brought back were my pictures and two pairs of earrings, but that's ok with me.
Spain is lovely.
